Cake cabinet to glasswasher, specced as one café.

Grill stations and urns from Roband, underbench and grab-and-go refrigeration from Skope, cake cabinets from Atosa, ice from Scotsman — plus the benching, wet bench and glasswasher that get costed last and blow the budget.

The 13-item café starter list

What goes into a 40-seat café serving all-day food, not just coffee. The espresso machine and grinder sit outside this list — see the questions below. Drop the lines you already own and we requote before anything is ordered.

Café equipment by stage

Before you buy

The four questions that decide a café's equipment list.

Get these wrong and you buy twice. Send us your floor plan and your expected daily covers and we'll answer all four in writing before anything is ordered.

  • Do you supply the espresso machine?

No. Espresso machines and grinders are not a line we stock, and we won't quote one we can't service. Your roaster will usually place the machine on a beans contract — we spec everything either side of it, including the bench it lands on and the power at that point.

  • Will a café hot line run on single phase?

Usually yes, but it is tight. An 8-slice grill station at 13 amp, a 15 amp convection oven and a griddle need three dedicated circuits, not one shared GPO run. We total the amps against your board before the order so you find out at quote stage, not at final inspection.

  • Underbench fridges or one upright?

Two-door underbench units under the make bench save the barista and the sandwich hand walking, and they double as work surface. Keep one upright glass door in the room for grab-and-go and backup stock — but don't make it your only cold storage, or every service is spent opening a display door.

  • Glasswasher or full dishwasher?

A 450mm rack glasswasher clears about 30 racks an hour and handles cups, saucers and glassware — enough for most café volumes, and it is what this list assumes. Once you are plating hot food past about 150 covers a day, step up to a 500mm underbench dishwasher and a double bowl wet bench beside it for the pot wash — about a $2,000 swap.
